Match Report - 15 June 2003

We were favoured with an absolutely superb day for our visit to Wormsley Manor courtesy of our friends and opponents, Stokenchurch CC, and, of course, the Getty Estate. We were and are very conscious of the privilege of playing on such a superb ground, in such a setting, and hope that we lived up to the occasion. To mark the event Dave Hasted, our captain for the day, presented his opposite number, Eric Marwood, with a small engraved plaque.
Stokenchurch won the toss and elected to bat on a super wicket. The Risborough bowlers found no great assistance and though bowling and fielding were reasonably tidy the 'home' team accumulated runs steadily. Although Raza made a good 58 before being caught and bowled by Dave Brooker, Stoken failed to accelerate in the latter stages and declared on 199-7. 'Extras' was the 3rd highest scorer with 31!
After tea Jon Witney, who opened, was unlucky to depart early lbw to Plows, although his partner Graham Linger went on to make 55 with only short-lived support from Andy Pitt (13), Dave Brooker (20) and Tim Brooker (16), the last of whom departed stumped as he tried to speed up the run-rate.
Then came the best partnership of the game between veteran 'evergreen' Dave Hasted who defended stoutly for 29 and Gary Evans with a dashing and undefeated 42. PRCC ended up 7 runs short with 2 wickets still standing. 'Evergreen' had a minor brainstorm and was stumped trying to hit the last ball of the innings for six, with 8 runs needed for victory. He later explained the aberration by saying that nobody had hit a six all afternoon and he wanted to do so!
A near-perfect day (we didn't win if you wish to know what was wrong) was rounded off with a small barbecue at the Stokenchurch pavilion. Thanks to all concerned - and can we keep the fixture - PLEASE!
