PRCC Match Reports 2003

This part contains brief details of matches as they were entered on the site. It was only started in late August & thus will have only a few details this year. We try to add details to results pages as early as possible.

Matches 6 September 2003 (end of season)
The 1st XI needed to win at Dinton to be clear of the relegation zone - a draw would mean that Cropredy (only 4 points behind) could overtake both us and Dinton (just 8 points ahead of PRCC) if they won.
It might have been a good toss to lose as the points system would force the winner to bat first. We won it (!) and made 196-7 thanks to 105 n.o. from Paul Strong. Dinton, knowing how many points they needed to remain ahead of us made little effort to get the runs and ended up on 114-4. Points scored: PRCC 12 points; Dinton 11 points; Cropredy (who won) got 30 points! We now wait to hear how many clubs are promoted / relegated.
PRCC 2nd XI faced a near impossible task at home as Kidlington 3rds made 313-6 from their 50 overs. However they surprised themselves as well as most others by making a creditable 202-2, Brian Piggott leading the way with 75 assisted by Dave Hasted (56 n.o.) and Andy Pitt (22).
Having taken more wickets PRCC got real benefit from the points system, scoring 15 points to Kidlington's 12. PRCC finished in 8th place (in a division of 15 teams which may split next year).
Matches 30 August 2003
The 1st XI continued its recent run of poor results, losing at home to Leighton Buzzard, whom we'd beaten at the end of June.
PRCC made 175, thanks to Paul Strong (72), assisted by Jon Witney (32). However Leighton Buzzard had little difficulty in passing the PRCC score, losing only 4 wickets in the process. With only one league fixture left we now languish in 8th place, only 4 points above 9th place Cropredy. Dinton - our opponents on 6th September - are 8 points ahead of us with everyone else out of reach.
2nd XI: Top of the table Buckingham comfortably beat the 2nd XI at Buckingham. PRCC only managed 162-7 off their 50 overs, top scorer being 'Evergreen' Dave Hasted with 39. The home team knocked off the runs for the loss of 2 wickets. PRCC are now in 9th place (in a league of 16 teams) with a sizeable gap both above and below us.
Matches 23 August 2003
The 1st XI made a costly mistake - putting in bottom of the League Chalgrove who, despite a super spell of 6-50 from Steve Greaves, managed 178 on what had looked to be a drying pitch. PRCC then struggled even though they had 52 overs in which to get the runs.
Put into a winning position by a strong partnership between the 2 Steves (Greaves (71) & Beard (65) we slumped to 172 all out, allowing the home side to gain 23 points on us!
The 2nd XI couldn't really blame a poor pitch for their demise at home against Stanton St John Willows 2nds. They lurched to 100 all out and, having batted poorly, they proceeded to bowl and field poorly too - the visitors knocking off the runs for the loss of just one wicket.
Matches 16 August 2003
The 1st XI, despite a good score of 224-7 went down again - although to the strong Morris Motors side who got them for 5 thanks to a fine 124 from Fiaz Ahmed. PRCC had a strong start courtesy of Paul Strong (65) and Graham Linger (69), the innings rounded off by an ebullient 40 n.o. from Dave Linger.
We shall miss Graham Linger who is now off for 6 months in Australia - don't forget to come back Graham!
The 2nd XI had a good win - by 8 wickets against bottom-of-table Wallingford 2nds. PRCC overtook the home side's 177-7 for the loss of only 2 wickets thanks to 65 from Sean Saunders and 38 n.o. from 'Evergreen' Dave Hasted.

Skinner Cup 2003

The Skinner Cup is the Buckinghamshire County knockout competition. Last year PRCC made the semi-final.
1st Round - 6 July: PRCC beat Aylesbury in an exciting finish.PRCC cored 237-4 off our 45 overs) thanks to Adam Morton (66) and Graham Linger (63). In reply Aylesbury were held to 235-7 (45 overs).
Result: PRCC beat Aylesbury by 2 runs.
2nd Round - 20 July: Last year's winners High Wycombe beat PRCC - but it wasn't a walkover!
We held the Warriors to 194, their last wicket falling in the 45th over. In reply PRCC ended on 179-9 with good contributions from Adam Morton (44), Matt Adams (41) and Jon Witney (46). Earlier Adam Morton had taken 3 for 20 and Paul Strong 4 for 40 from their 9 allotted overs.
Result: High Wycombe won by 15 runs.
